The human figure in art, and in antiques, is a used by decorators to add an element of
interest,
to draw the eye, to invite questions. LINDA HORN has in her collection a
selection of antique
figures in a great variety of styles and materials. There are classical
marble figures:
a white marble cupid figure resting on a pillow with his quiver and arrows
and a marble
baby figure seated on a pillow. There is a French bronze figure of a boy,
“ The Water Carrier”;
a small decorative brass Art Nouveau figure; a rough carved burled
wood boxer figure;
a pair of large stone Staffordshire style cupid figures; and from the
mid 19th Century,
there is an impressive pair of life-size Napoleon III period Blackamoor
figures in cast iron
from the Val D’Osne French foundry.
From the 20th Century, there is a male metal torso
in polished aluminum and an
interesting pair of polished aluminum heads. Of course, there are
majolica figures
such as the pair of fishing figures holding their nets.
